A news agency close to the regime in Iran reported the arrest of Mr. Tavasoli with the allegations of forging the signatures of several people in a public letter with 143 signatories.In the letter that was written about two weeks ago to former president Mohammad Khatami, the signatories stated that the very basic conditions for a free environment to conduct fair elections do not exist in the country today.
The 143 political and civil activists announced in their statement to the former president of Iran “a clear vision for the preservation of the public vote for elections that are open, healthy and fair does not exist.”
The signatories added “while imposing the increasing influence and unrelenting dominance of military and security forces in all executive, judicial and legislative bodies, the rulers have promised so called free elections. They expect that the citizens who have lost all hope for any improvement in their lives, seeking even the slightest change will go to the polls only to be disappointed when their legal vote is slaughtered by those monopolizing all the country’s power.”
Another signatory of the statement was Ebrahim Yazdi who for two decades was the general secretary of the Freedom Movement and whose trial was held on Wednesday.
